We are pleased to inform you that today, on April 29, 2022 at 10:29, we have signed a new notary agreement to fully purchase yet another property to expand the design museum. This specific property purchase was rather important for us as it was positioned very strategically between all other properties, and with the purchase of this particular property the museum now controls the complete left façade of the building and all previously purchased properties could now be connected to each other physically.

We are very happy to acquire this lot, which was the last piece that we needed to make a truly amazing storefront for the museum. In the birdseye view above, you will notice the location of the museum, we got the whole basefloor that was one large warehouse, and three shops. This location is blessed with its vicinity to Villa Olmo, the Como Lake and to top that, there are two very big parking lots, within 50 meters a great convinience for visitors, a true rarity in Como.

We are very pleased to inform you that today, on April 28, 2022 at 15:29, we have signed a new notary agreement to fully purchase a new and additional property to expand the design museum. This particular purchase was very important as it was the biggest adjecent property that was essential for the growth of the museum, with large windows visible from the street overseeing Villa Olmo. This new expansion will allow us to exhibit all designs in a more adequate and respectful manner, giving them more space and light for proper and prestigious showcase.


Trademark Registered

We are pleased to announce that on 9 December, 2021. We have successfully registered the Museo del Design Trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office and our entries have been recorded in the Register of European Union trademarks.

Our new trademark registration allows us to create new and original, commercial as well as probono products, projects and services with the Museo del Design™® registered trademark without worries of interest conflicts. Furthermore, we can also use registered trademark symbol, as well as the trademark icon with our name.


Expansion #1

We are pleased to inform you that today, on October 5, 2021 at 11:30, we have signed a new notary agreement to fully purchase a new and additional property to expand the design museum. This new property purchase is important for us as it expands the front façade of the museum and therefore allows us to significantly improve street level exposure and visibility. The additional windows and storefronts will definitely attract visitors to the museum, helping us showcase award-winning works to larger audiences.

Via Bellinzona, where the museum is located, has a very high traffic of affluent locals and tourists, and the larger front provided by this expansion will not only help lure design-oriented audiences to the museum but most importantly, this new property purchase also enables us to reposition the ticket office to open up space to exhibit award-winning good designs in a better, larger setting.

Unity and Diversity for Logo Mark

We are very pleased to inform you that today, on October 6, 2020 at 19:30 Italian time, we have selected the final logo for the Museo del Design, titled "Coherent Consonance", designed by OMC Design Studios in Como, Italy. The logo mark was selected after a democratic voting process where over 400 designs were eliminated, followed by a top-down decision from the list of 8 final options, which the winning emblem was selected.

Before selecting the final logo, OMC Design Studios further presented us with monochromatic versions, scaled-down versions as well as black & white variants to see how well the new logo would perform in different applications and mediums.

For Black & White variant, a distinct symbol version was created, that integrates full and empty circles, which deviates from the full color logo. This variant became a popular option for the Museo del Design to integrate for graphics work. We later built upon and refined this monochrome version for more common use.

In addition to full color logo image, a reverse color scheme that integrate pastel colors were also presented. We are very pleased that the logo symbol works in almost any color at any scale.

The logo design integrates 26 distinct colors, 10 squares, 10 triangles, 5 circles, each in a distinct and unique color, the motto of the logo is, “Unity with Diversity”. The logo has two distinct graphic element groups.

The first graphic element group, the “Elemental Factory”, symbolizes unity, order, harmony and industrial production; it further represents the ability of mankind to highly specialize in distinct knowledge domains, come together and efficiently create and produce art, architecture, design and artifacts for the good and benefit of the society, using tools and technologies, that are constantly being built upon.

The second graphic element group, “Fist of Chaos”, is a juxtaposition to the “Elementary Factory”, signify diversity, chaos, individuality, oneness and distinctiveness. The whole represents “Coherent Consonance”, agreement and compatibility between different opinions and actions that leads to logical and consistent quality of forming a unified whole, where divergent and individual ideas are given as importance as widely common public and social concepts.

Museo del Design’s new logo embeds unrestrained child-like imagination and creativity with professional logo mark design with scale-testing, kerning, typeface and symbol design; the new logo is distinctive, remarkable and unique, all and all being highly professional and functional.

In graphics design, it is almost a taboo, if not highly challenging task, to use more than a few colors for a highly professional logo mark. It is hard to create a working logo with many colors, and that’s what was achieved here. We wanted to break the norm to have a black and white logo that is written simply in Helvetica, Neue Haas Grotesk or Swiss 721 and created a new look.

For the new logo, multiple distinct typefaces that represent the very rich Italian and Roman culture were integrated, modified and altered; inspiration for the logotype came from the fonts that were used in the historical archives, notary and communal documents that detailed the real estate of the museum itself, as well as the overall Italian culture, which gave birth to Leonardo da Vinci; Roman artifacts, Leonardo’s own writings, and ancient and classical Roman fonts were blend together, redrawn, vectorized, placed, kerned and rounded ever slightly to create the final work.

While other museums focused on monochromatic logo designs that are almost always just black, we especially went for a very colorful logo that further integrates distinct graphic elements, which could be used to create distinct and derivative elements that could be integrated and used as part of a larger brand identity.

We tested real life applications of the logo design by producing samples of the final logo both as positive and negative variants with different manufacturing technologies, and in the end, we made several improvements and changes that allows us to create the logo easier in 3D printing, CNC working and laser cutting.

In the final version of the monochromatic version of the logo, we have simplified the vector source by reducing the number of points, we mended the factory squares and triangles, rounded the factory edges ever so slightly and we also merged the circles together which makes it easier to be 3D printed, CNC worked and laser cutted.

We are very pleased with the final look of the Museo del Design's Unity and Diversity Logo Mark, and we now have a merchandise package that you could order that integrates this new and exciting logo design, both in colorful and monochromatic variants.


We have signed the Notary Act for Purchase Deed

We are very pleased to inform you that today, on September 29, 2020 at 10:15 Italian time, we have signed the notarized agreement and deed for purchasing a very prestigious, very large real estate right near Villa Olmo in Como, Italy.

Above, you see Prof. Dr. Onur Mustak Cobanli signing for the Deed of Purchase, on behalf of A' Design Award & Competition, the entity, who have purchased the real estate for establishing the Museo del Design in Como, Italy. The Museo del Design is going to be located at Via Bellinzona 15, Como, Italy.

The street name Bellinzona could perhaps be a fast spelling of "belli in zona", which translates to "beauties in the area", which we find it a hapy coincidence since the museo del design will definetely be the one of most beautiful locations in the area, and in the World for arts, creativity, design and architecture.

Villa Olmo, built from 1797 in neoclassicist style by the Odescalchi family, housed Napoleon, Ugo Foscolo, Prince Metternich, Archduke Franz Ferdinand I, Giuseppe Garibaldi, and other eminent figures, now an exhibition center with a great lake view and excellent gardens, is the most touristic location of the Como city.

Como city, relocated by Julius Caesar, near Milan, yet also bordering Switzerland, the gem of Como Lake, is one of the most touristic Italian cities, birth place of Alessandro Volta, one of the most visited cities of Lombardy.

Villa Olmo is the centerpiece of tourism for Como, and our new design museum space is located just 40 seconds by walk to it. We have been searching for a space like this for the last 10 years. The Museo del Design has a very good location, right next to lake, literally next to Villa Olmo, which also provides us with ample parking opportunities.

This brand-new grand exhibition space, will serve as the foundation of our pride, the newly established Museo del Design, which will be exhibiting good designs, art and architecture from all countries in all disciplines, that will serve as a catalyst, a power source for us to establish our foundation goal of making the World a better place with good design.

Museo del Design’s action, to realize its mission and vision, is to exhibit, showcase, spotlight, promote, advertise and recognize excellent new and well-designed products, projects and works in a reputable environment and respectable ambient. Museo del Design’s mandate is to promote super contemporary good design, architecture, arts, engineering and innovation, as well as the creators of thereof, in all industrial fields, in all academic disciplines, worldwide. Immortalize, Ennoble and Commemorate Your Name

Golden Letters in History: Get your name and surname laser inscribed and physically applied in gold lettering permanently to durable medium, to be showcased at the museum’s history explanatory wall at the museum of design, with large letters written in Vollkorn Bold font, 700 weight, that are distinguishable from distance. We aim The Golden Letters in History to be popular spot in the museum for exhibitors to take photos, in front of names and surnames of World’s leading designers, artists, architects, creatives and engineers. This exhibit will feature a digital signage that will, in rotation, display the featured designers’ portrait images, their hand-written names and their signatures together with their photos and short biographies. You are allowed to write your name in any language and script.

Eternalize Your Design Philosophy

Rosetta Bottles of Immortality: Leave an unprecedented artifact for comparative linguistic research, education and design ethnography. Your very own personal notes, story, words, adages, idioms, sayings, memories and messages will be translated to over 100+ languages, and preserved indefinitely. One day, your very own words, might be the key to deciphering long lost languages. Your words will be printed on special transparent plastic sheets and placed in hermetic glass containers to ensure they withstand the test of time. We will even try our best to replace the air in the containers with inert gas such as argon to prevent aging and to ensure that your texts do not get oxidized. A Piece of Myself

Leave us a Reliquary Containing a Sublime Object of Great Reverence

A Piece of Myself: Leave us with a literal piece of yourself and have an excellent story to tell in evening outs – “I got a piece of myself stored in a design museum”. We will provide you with special containers in which you will be able to leave a bunch of your hair strings up to 6cm long. Do not worry about getting your DNA leaked; you have complete control over whether you provide your DNA sample or not; if you cut a piece of your hair, that does not supposed to have your DNA, however if you provide us with hair directly pulled from your body, these hairs pulled from the follicle will contain your DNA. You will also be asked to send us a photo at your sole discretion - this is optional, that shows or depicts the moment the hair is pulled or cut, to be included as part of an interactive display that is shown together with the Sample Kits of “A Piece of Myself” installation. Design museum visitors will have opportunity to access further details about you by entering identification codes on sample kits, which will also be shown at the digital installation.

Your hair should be shipped to us in airtight zipped bags, with all your details, wash the individual hair pieces before shipping them to ensure that they are not contaminated with bacteria or virus and or other organic material that could cause degradation of a piece of yourself. Do please kindly note that the museum curator, at their sole discretion, may decide to refuse to display any piece for any reason, including but not limited to cases if your item has deteriorated in its condition and/or not compliant to our sample gathering methodology.

Participation Instructions: When you take part in A Piece of Myself installation, you will be sent a participation kit. We have also sent this participation kit to famous designers, legendary artists and star architects around the World.

A Piece of Myself Package participation kit comes in an opaque resealable aluminum foil package that does not allow light or air to pass through, everything you need to take part is inside this package including the address to send back the package together with all the tools you need.
A Piece of Myself Package participation kit includes the following: (1) Wood Stick, (2) Foil Roll Wrapper, (3) Square Paper (4) Single Use Tweezer, (5) Biohazard Specimen Bag, (6) Single Use Gloves, (7) Temporary Container Vial Tube, (8) Shipping Instructions and Participation Agreement.
Inside the A Piece of Myself participation kit, you will find instructions as well as an airtight plastic tube container that is approximately 82 mm long (with cap) and 75 mm long (within), this is the temporary container that you will use to store your hair during transport.
Inside the A Piece of Myself Package, in addition to the temporary storage vial, participation and shipping instructions, you will further find a biohazard specimen bag as well as a square paper that is 76.25 mm x 76.25 mm, and a wooden stick.
Next time you get a haircut, keep some of your hair in the biohazard specimen bag (or any safe container) and place it on the square paper. The square paper, is relevant because you will roll the hair using this paper; especially if you have curly hair, this will be useful.
After you roll your hair with the square paper, place the rolled paper inside the tube and then use the wooden stick to push the hair to tube while also pulling the paper. Once the tube is filled or once you place all the hair within the tube, close its lid.
Before you place the filled temporary storage tube within the shipping envelope, you should write with a black permanent marker your A Piece of Myself Identification Number. This number is provided to you after your registration and payment for installation participation.

Space-Time Displacement

Let Your Memories Time-Travel Forward

Space-Time Displacement: We will be storing your time-capsule for the next 88 years and showcase your brand logo, design, or graphic work applied to the exterior of the time-capsule to museum visitors. Your time capsule will be numbered and inspected by the lore keeper. Unlike other installations, where the objects are completely visible, exposed and also digitally scanned, the contents of the Time-Space Displacement capsules will remain a mystery, except for the name of the person who deposited them, and an enigmatic statement by the lore keeper about the contents of the capsule, that does not reveal much detail except for item sizes, colors, texture, weight and scent, which all makes the capsule more cryptic instead. On the exterior however, you are not only allowed to, but especially encouraged and suggested to apply amazing graphic design work to make the overall installation attractive to museum visitors. Museum visitors will be able dig into the mysterious capsules by entering their identifiers to the digital display that would be placed next to the capsules. Time capsules are made of metal on the outside and have an internal glass container inside to provide additional isolation and a second layer of protection for its contents. Before closing the capsules, in order to provide additional safety and extend protection lifespan we will replace air inside the glass container with Argon gas to reduce oxidation and protect its content, furthermore we will add oxygen scavengers to the metal container to decrease the level of oxygen in the package. In addition to oxygen scavengers, we will also place silica desiccant to reduce internal humidity, and we will also place volatile corrosion inhibitor (VCI) to protect internal metals from rusting. Time-Space Displacement capsules will not be buried and will be exhibited in the museum space prominently, if you do not apply a graphic work to its exterior, in this case we will paint each capsule based on the average color of its contents. You are also allowed to place your logo, signature, design or name on the time capsule exterior graphic design. Capsule owners will have the right to request premature opening of capsules at any date and be able to retrieve their contents however the capsules themselves will remain part of the exhibition. If and when a capsule is opened earlier, its contents should be replaced with equivalent weight and value objects at the date of opening, for the grand opening event that would take place 88 years later. We will also take photos of exteriors of your capsules and showcase it in our online photo gallery.

Excite and Entice Museum Visitors

Official Doodle: Throughout history, doodles have served a very noble purpose as a medium where deviant thinking took place and where original ideas come to be. The “Official Doodle” is a world-first, unique and fun art installation, and an amazing way to sponsor and collaborate with the design museum, where we will exhibit the original doodle in a special display case and where we will scan, trace and convert your doodle drawing to a vectoral image which we will can print and then apply it as part of one-of-a-kind installation in a digital wall. Taking part in the “Official Doodle” art installation is a great opportunity to leave a doodle on the museum walls and get away with it officially, it is also quite an interesting experience and an original topic to talk about yourself. For each doodle, we will place museum style information boards that tells; Name of Work, Year of Work, Designers’ Name. Keep My Name Alive

Monumentalize and Perpetuate Your Name

Keep My Name Alive: Designers, artists, architects, creators and innovators, and all the great people who make the World a better place with their designs, creations, ideas and innovations, we have something quite original for you; we would like you to take part in an art installation unlike any other, where we exhibit not your work, but you and your name instead. We will make a black and white dithered image of you using Atkinson dithering method, write your Name, Birthyear, Birth Country, and Profession as part of “Keep My Name Alive” art installation. Your information will be written in the same format that you get accustomed to see in other design museums, on foam board, with a professional sans-serif grotesk font, next to your dithered image. We will also add your name to our historical archives as well as provide you with a special certificate that commemorates your “Keep My Name Alive” art installation participation.

Pleasure to Treasure: This is indeed a rather interesting collaborative art installation where you can deposit a single, non-organic object or a piece of an artifact, that is meaningful and valuable to you, that will fit our very tiny glass containers. It will give us great satisfaction and enjoyment to keep your items carefully and safe, and showcase your treasures to curious design museum visitors from across the globe. Before placing your items into our glass containers, we will be taking professional macro photographs of your objects and showcase these macro images in digital displays together with the objects, and we will also send you these photographs as well as publish these images online for museum visitors to enjoy and discover. Each tiny container will have an identification code assigned to them where the visitors will be able to learn more about you and the object you deposited using an interactive digital kiosk. We will also provide you with a special certificate that acknowledges your participation to our “Pleasure to Treasure” art installation.

If you design an artwork for a trading card, the trading card containing your artwork and your name, would most likely be reproduced and spread around the World, and has a chance of becoming a highly collectible item sought after by collectors and connoisseurs, to be permanently kept, saved, loved, protected, showcased and exhibited within private collections, eternalizing your artwork and your name.

That’s why we decided to create “Trading Art Cards” in collaboration with A’ Design Awards. Our final aim with the Trading Art Cards is to financially support the design museum, by creating an additional revenue stream.

Museo del Design’s Trading Art Cards provide a unique opportunity for merited artists, designers and architects to share their newest works with art, architecture and design enthusiasts Worldwide, without being subjected to any sort of discrimination that may be due to race, colour, sex, gender, religion, nationality, age or financial status, as long as they present us with highly original, good designs that help make the World a better place.

Museo del Design will also publish an extensive online catalogue and organize a digital exhibition of all Trading Art Cards, aimed to work as an original educational tool, and inspirational board that not only helps identify the cards, but also leads to exploration and awe.

If you decide to send a physical work, we will try to digitize it by means of 3D and 2D scanning for online catalogue and exhibition inclusion and for eventual reproduction and promotion, if you are sending a digital work, you may submit your work in any type of media, in any type of media, provided that the final artwork is bound within the following dimensions: Width (X): 63mm exact. Height (Y) : 88 mm exact, no overflows. Thickness (Z): Max 360pt Point Gauge Thickness (1000 points = 1 inch = 25.4mm, therefore 360pt would be equivalent to a maximum of 9.144 mm thickness), preferably 12-15pt (0.3 to 0.4 mm thickness).

Museo del Design will organize an international exhibition for each edition of the Trading Art Card Series and its Expansions, that includes the initial limited run First Edition - Alpha Release. Museo del Design proudly exhibits latest and newest design work and organizes a new contemporary design exhibition each year. Museo del Design also organizes events, workshops and courses at the design museum, publishes books on design, and manages an artist residency program, inviting prominent designers to teach at the design museum. Museo del Design also publishes online videos on design such as lectures and designer featurettes.
Museo del Design has been especially structured and designed in a way to grow, to establish and franchise new branches in different countries and regions. Our great ambition and vision is to bring modern and super contemporary good design to all countries, all regions and all locations. We wish to promote current designers, artists and architects to young and dynamic audiences worldwide.
Museo del Design, in addition to the exhibition space, features a museum shop, a design museum restaurant and a bar. Museo del Design is also looking forward to establish a designer hotel for artists and designers to stay during events and courses organized within the design museum.

We will start providing the rewards from September 2022, starting with the merchandise kit, other rewards, such as those that require you to send us materials and data, will start immediately but they will be realized and placed only once the architectural and interior renovation is completed, which we hope to do so latest by September 2024.

It is highly possible to get your work exhibited at Museo del Design especially if you have some great designs, conceptualized or realized within the last ten (10) years. In general, we feature award-winning designs, art and architecture, especially good designs that have won prestigious awards such as the A’ Design Award & Competition.
Right now, as you may have noticed, we are running an ongoing fundraiser and crowdfunding campaign for the design museum with our primary exhibits, extended initial offerings, unique installations, merchandise and attractions. Our purpose is to stay independent and strong, to have funds and resources to achieve our primary goals of promoting the designers and their original design works. Therefore, it is not possible to take part in the installations free of charge, but we are always open to barter; we can exchange our services, our products for your services, your products and your time; we are open for equal exchange for sure.
The most direct, but not an easy way, for you to get your design exhibited at Museo del Design is to take part and hopefully win the A’ Design Award and Competition. Right now, you may upload your design free of charge to A’ Design Award to get a free preliminary score, to understand if you have a chance. Every year, Museo del Design refreshes majority of its collection with new and original award-winning works that we select among A’ Design Award winners. We work with A’ Design Award since A’ Design Award & Competition has the most diverse participant base and design portfolio, and also of course because A’ Design Award & Competition has contributed very significantly to the establishment of the Museo del Design by being a founding member. The second way to get exhibited is to get a direct invitation from the Museo del Design curators, which may happen during workshops, courses and other events organized by the museum.

You can absolutely help us. Right now, you may first of all take part in some of our ongoing crowdfunding and fundraising packages. Second, we are looking forward for lecturers and artists for our artists residency, to publish their books and to create online educational videos. Third we are looking for sponsors, patrons and powerful entities to help us achieve our goals, to establish new locations, and to extend our facilities. Finally, we are looking for great designers and architects to exhibit their work. We are also accepting interns and voluntary staff, make sure to contact us for any and all inquiries.

The very first museum to open to the public was Museo Capitolini. Museo Capitolini was established in Rome, Italy in 1471 and was open to public in 1734, but even before then, in Italy, there were many private museums in their prototype form; grand houses and palaces of aristocrats and the social elite were built with special rooms that were created as spaces designed specifically to display works of art; these room-museums contained paintings, sculptures and curiosity cabinets and eventually the value of showcasing art and design for public benefit was recognized and the era of museums happen to be. It is only natural that we choose Italy, the cradle of museums, as the location where we would open our first branch.
